Kootenai County Ramsey Transfer Station - Recycling Drop Off

The Kootenai County Solid Waste Transfer Stations are open to the general public and commercial hauling companies seven days a week. The Transfer Stations provide designated areas for waste disposal and many recyclable commodities.

The entry gates open at 8:00 a.m. and close to the public at 4:55 p.m. daily. It is requested that all customers be unloaded and out of the facility by 5:00 p.m. Kootenai County Transfer Stations only take waste and recyclables that have originated from within Kootenai County. All Kootenai County facilities are closed on the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day.  

Recycling is free of charge for all residents.

  • NO GLASS OR STYROFOAM can be recycled. Dispose of glass and Styrofoam as trash.
  • Only Plastics #1 and #2 are accepted for recycling. (Look for a number within the small recycling triangle.) Dispose of all other plastics as trash.
  • All food containers for recycling must be free of food residue, clean and dry.
  • Scrap metal must be free of fuel, oils, water, or other liquids, and other non-metal contaminants.

Household Hazardous Waste: Kootenai County Transfer Stations provide residential Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection on specific days per week. Refer to the Kootenai County Transfer Station HHW webpage for detailed information on this program.

Rural sites: Kootenai County also operates 13 rural residential sites for collection of household refuse.  The rural sites are NOT for disposal of any commercial waste. This system is designed and contracted to collect only household refuse generated in Kootenai County that do not have private collection or other disposal facilities available locally. Cardboard recycling is available at the Chilco, Athol and Rathdrum rural locations. All recyclables must come into the transfer stations. For more information, please see the rural recycling page.

No glass or styrofoam are accepted.

Kootenai County Code requires that all loads be secured.

Kootenai County Residents can dispose of up to 2000 pounds of refuse per trip for free, some exclusions apply. Commercial customers will pay per pound of disposal. Debit, credit cards, cash, and personal checks are accepted forms of payment.
